Linux Training Delivery
The Linux Training materials distributed from this site are formatted
for use as bullet-pointed foils (slides/transparencies).
They are intended as lecture notes for experienced instructors, who
can tailor their delivery to the precise needs of a given audience.
Initial modules are designed to be relatively stand-alone (though
naturally with prerequisite modules as the list grows).
Although individual authors have some room for maneouvre the general
format is as follows:
- Each module contains approximately 20-25 pages of bullet-points, or
roughly one hour of presentation.
- Each module should be followed by graduated exercises to which more
or less practical session time can be given, depending on the length of
the overall course and the ability of the students.
- Ideally, individual pages should contain no more than 4-6 bullet points
These notes are NOT intended to supplant other reference material;
they are for use in the tutorial part of the learning process and it
is expected that additional reference material would be used by
students.
We may eventually start to recommend books for use for reference but
we are concerned about whether we can reasonably do that to begin
with, since we don't want legions of book-pushers ringing us up and
'plugging' their wares.
Disclaimer
It should be noted that the materials as they stand now (Currently
version 0.2 for modules 1-4 and version 0.1 for modules 5-8) are still
a beta release. While we have taught from them, and they are
certainly a reasonable set of materials, we expect the content to
change extensively as the Linux training market matures.
Contractual problems prevent us from uploading exact copies of the
notes and exercises we use to deliver Linux training for our own
corporate clients. This requires us to put a large amount of unpaid
effort into modifying those materials for release under the Linux
Training Materials Copying Licence.
The principal casualties of this process have been the exercises
appended to the early releases. Given time, we will release more
suitable versions of our own exercises, but we do ask users of the
open source notes to consider feeding any exercises they develop back
into the Linux Training Materials Project. Please send such
contributions to linux@gbdirect.co.uk
